iRMT levels description


FASTON is a Factory Authorized Rotax Training Organization providing standardized training for Rotax Aircraft Engines.

Our company offers training courses on Rotax 2-stroke and ROTAX 912/914 aviation engines based on training pyramid.

Completion of courses from level 2 and higher are confirmed by exams. Succesfull participants are granted by Certificate of Completion and have rights to use title and logo IRMT (Independent ROTAX Maintenance Technician)*. Validity of the Certificate is 2 years.

Name of IRMT holder is published on FASTON and oficial BRP-Powertrain web page - Independent ROTAX Maintenance Technician list together with expiry date.

The certificate IRMT recognizes completion of the training detailed above and does not endorse the holder to any work beyond what was instructed. The responsibility remains with the certificate holder to determine what level of work he/she is capable of performing, depending on their experience, skill, tools and level of ROTAX training and respective laws.


Our training pyramid builds on 5 main levels of the IRMT training for ROTAX 912/914 engines.


Level 1

Familiarization course

Intended Audience:pilots, homebuilders, managers, owners etc. , gives a basic knowlegde to ROTAX (aircraft engines) product line and information on different aircraft systems and engine operations
Prerequisities: General technical knowlegde
Course length:6 hours, one day
Topics and objects:Company presentation Presentation of product line and applications Description of design Technical data Description of systems Operating instructons Abnormal operation Checks
Skills/Competence acquired:Be familiar with a ROTAX aircraft engines product line
Examination:none

Level 2

Service course

Intended Audience:owners, sers, technicians, who needs deeper knowlegde of proper operation and servicing of the Rotax 912 and 914 Series Aircraft Engines
Prerequisities:
  • General knowledge of Rotax 4 stroke Aircraft Engines
  • General knowledge Aircraft systems and terminology
Course length:16 hours, two days
Topics and objects:
  • finding and understanding information from Operators Manuals, Maintenance Manuals and other accompaning documentation like Service Information, etc.
  • Basic service including oil level, checking of magnetic plug, oil change, inspection oil filter for, purging of the oil system
  • Carburetor synchronization
  • pressure test
  • maintenance works according to time Schedule
  • propeller gearbox checks
  • test run of the engine
  • dismantling of basic components

Skills/Competence acquired:
  • basic proficiency and required to perform routine maintenance up to an Annual Inspection
  • skills needed for correct maintenance of the engine according to schedlued maintenance checks
Assesment:written test and practical examination. Passing grade: 70%
Certificate:Successful participants will be granted by Certificate of Completion and right tu use IRMT title

Level 3

Maintenance course

Intended Audience:maintenance personnel with good maintenance skills who needs depth knowlegde of servicing of the Rotax 912 and 914 Series Aircraft Engines
Prerequisities:
  • Completion of a Rotax authorized 912 Series Service course within the last 24 months
  • Minimum one year experience in servicing of Rotax 4 stroke aircraft engines
Course length:16 hours, two days
Topics and objects:
  • Detailed maintenance issues, tips and tricks, removal and replacement (LRU) of the following systems or components: Cylinder Heads
    • Cylinders and pistons
    • Intake / exhaust system
    • Carburetors
    • Ignition system
    • Gearbox
    • Starter
    • Oil Pump
  • troubleshooting issues
Skills/Competence acquired:
  • advance knowlege about proper maintenance, basic proficiency and xperience in exchanging components (LRU), advanced troubleshooting
  • eligibility to enter the iRMT Heavy Maintenance Course
Assesment:written test and practical examination. Passing grade: 70%
Certificate:Successful participants will be granted by Certificate of Completion IRMT Maintenance

Level 4

Heavy Maintenance course

Intended Audience:maintenance personnel with good maintenance skills who wants depth knowlegde troubleshooting and repair of the Rotax 912 and 914 Series Aircraft Engines
Prerequisities:
  • Completion of a Rotax authorized 912/914 Series Maintenance course within the last 24 months
  • Minimum two years experience in servicing of Rotax 4 stroke aircraft engines
Course length:24 hours, three days
Topics and objects:
  • disassembly, inspection, repair and re-assembly of the following components:
    • Cylinder Heads
    • Cylinders and pistons
    • Gearbox
    • Ignition housing/sprag clutch/water pump
    • Turbo charger / exhaust system
    • Carburetors
    • Starter
    • Oil Pump
Skills/Competence acquired: knowledge, basic proficiency and pre-requisite experience to parts classification and repair Rotax 912 / 914 series components
Assesment:written test and practical examination. Passing grade: 70%
Certificate:Successful participants will be granted by Certificate of Completion for IRMT Heavy Maintenance

Level 5

Overhaul course
